Care Guide

Care is part of the pleasure.

How to live with down

Quality down lasts ten to fifteen years with simple gestures. No technical manual — just what matters, in the right order.

01

Fifteen seconds, every day.

Good care is small and constant. The three gestures below take fifteen seconds in the morning — and extend the duvet’s lifespan by years.

The Routine
Shake, air, cover.
i.

Gentle shake

When you get up, shake the duvet lightly by the corners. Redistributes the down and keeps the loft. Never beat it.

ii.

Air 15 min

Leave the duvet open to room air before covering the bed. In shade, never direct sun.

iii.

Always with cover

The Aurora cover protects the down from direct contact with skin and perspiration. Change it every 7 to 10 days.

02

The rule is less.

Natural down is fragile when wet. The good news is that, with the Aurora cover, the duvet barely needs a full wash for years. The cover, on the other hand — weekly.

+ Yes, do this
  • Wash the Aurora cover every 7–10 days, delicate cycle at 30 °C, inside out.
  • Wash pillowcases with the cover, same frequency.
  • Wash the duvet only when there’s a stain or noticeable smell — usually once a year or less.
  • Wash the pillow once a year, with the same care as the duvet.
× Never, under any circumstances
  • Fabric softener — coats the down and destroys the fill power. Clean down is already soft.
  • Bleach — damages the fibres and proteins of the down.
  • Direct sun — dries out and weakens the down. Always air in the shade.
  • Ironing, vacuuming or beating — destroys the structure.
  • Storing damp — wet down creates irreversible mould within hours.
03

When needed, like this.

Washing down is simple as long as you do it patiently. The single rule is: complete drying, no rush. 99% dry down is still wet down.

1

Large machine

Use a machine of at least 8 kg, or a professional laundry. The duvet has to tumble freely — a small machine cannot wash it properly.

2

Neutral liquid soap

Liquid detergent without enzymes, bleach or softener. Use a small amount — down releases its own foam. Delicate cycle at 60 °C.

3

Double rinse

Soap residue in the down reduces loft. Program two rinse cycles and a gentle spin at the end.

4

Tumble dry

Tumble dryer on medium heat, with tennis balls or dryer balls. Stop every 30 minutes to fluff by hand. 2 to 4 hours total.

5

Confirm dry

Before storing: pick up the duvet, feel weight by weight. Any cool spot = still damp. Add 30 more minutes in the dryer. Repeat until fully dry.

6

Air 24 h

Even after the dryer, let it air in the shade for 24 hours before use or storage. Extra insurance against residual moisture.

04

How long it lasts, in practice.

Quality down outlasts any other bedding product. The difference isn’t marginal — it’s an order of magnitude.

Refill is a European practice: when the duvet loses loft, it’s recharged with new down rather than discarded — extending the lifespan further still.

05

For the Brazilian side of the system.

Aurora covers, pillowcases and fitted sheets ask for their own care. 400 thread count sateen ages well when washed correctly.

Wash at 30 °C

Delicate cycle at 30 °C. Preserves the sateen finish, the colour and the softness for far longer.

Turn inside out

Especially in dark colours (Sage Green, Black). Reduces friction on the outer face and preserves the sheen.

Little to no softener

Quality sateen doesn’t need it. Excess creates residue that reduces absorption and leaves a sticky feel.

Warm iron if needed

Low temperature, inside out. Preferred alternative: dry flat and fold while still slightly damp.
